Clarence High School lived up to its top billing, heading into this year’s NEC Tassie Hawks Regional Shield, Southern Region final, beating Sorell High School by 62 points to earn a direct berth into this year’s NEC Tassie Hawks Cup Grand Final Day at Aurora Stadium.

In front of an enthusiastic crowd at North Hobart Oval, Clarence kicked 13.4 (82) to 3.2 (20) in a polished display that saw it lead from start to finish.

Down by seven goals at the main break, Sorell needed to impose themselves on the contest early in the second half, and a marked increase in their intensity paid dividends when they entered their forward 50 with more purpose . Their resurgence was short-lived, however, with Clarence banging on another four goals to put the game out of reach.

Sam Nelson, starred up forward with four goals for Clarence and he was well supported by team mate Tait Giffard who kicked three quality goals.

Sorell never stopped trying and should be congratulated for their endeavour and commitment against the odds. Flynn kicked all three of Sorell’s goals to be their only shining light up forward.

The victory puts Clarence straight into the 2009 NEC Tassie Hawks Cup Grand Final Day to be played at Aurora Stadium on Wednesday, September 2.
