Forward Chris Tarrant will be unavailable for the round 13 match against Carlton as a result of the conclusion of the investigation into the events that occurred in Darwin last Saturday evening.

As a result of the events following the round 12 clash against the Western Bulldogs, the club requested the assistance of the AFL’s independent investigator Allan Roberts in the completion of the investigation. While the completion of this investigation has taken some time, a situation less than ideal, the club considers that it has been important that the investigation be conducted and completed thoroughly.

The club has now had the opportunity to consider the position and has concluded a sanction is appropriate.

In establishing the appropriate sanctions, the club recognises that this is the player’s first breach of club rules at the Fremantle Football Club. Since joining the club, Chris’ attitude and behaviour to the club and the team have been outstanding. However, Chris and all players, when faced with these situations, must exercise greater restraint.

Accordingly, the Fremantle Football Club confirms the following sanctions have been applied to Chris Tarrant:

·        A three (3) match suspension, with two (2) matches of this sanction suspended and only to be applied in the event of a serious breach of club rules and protocols between now and the conclusion of the 2008 Home and Away season.

Therefore Chris will be unavailable for selection for the Round 13 match against Carlton.

·        A fine of $5,000 in accordance with the AFL and AFLPA Code of Conduct.

The club will also be fully reviewing its policy and protocols in relation to player and staff attendance for post match activities.

AFL Chief Executive Officer Andrew Demetriou acknowledged the way Fremantle had handled the matter and the decision the club had taken.

"It's the second time this year the club has taken a difficult decision in relation to one of their leading players but it sends a strong message to the players and the community about what is acceptable behaviour."

The Fremantle Football Club considers this matter now closed.
