Sydney midfielder Nic Fosdike is free to play in the grand final re-match against West Coast in the opening round of the season.

Fosdike, who had never previously been reported in his AFL career, was successful in having a one match striking ban for his clash with Richmond's Matthew White at Manuka Oval last Saturday reduced by the AFL Tribunal on Tuesday night to a reprimand.

This was on the basis that the impact on the young Tigers defender was low rather than medium as laid out by the match review panel.

Afterwards Fosdike admitted there had been much at stake for him, knowing a suspension would have deprived him of facing the team that denied the Swans' back-to-back flags by just one point last season.

"It's a fantastic result and I am looking forward to round one now," he said.

"You don’t want to miss out on the first game of the season but it went the way we hoped and now I am looking forward to playing the Eagles."
