‘The junkyard dog’ Tommy Logan will be taking on the cream of the crop in the Grand Final sprint at the MCG on Saturday. Logan, who has had a breakout season in 2008, says he’s taken plenty of inspiration from watching the Beijing Olympics last month.
The heats for the Grand Final sprint will be at 11.30am with the final being run at half time of the main event.
The Power action doesn’t stop there though, with senior coach Mark Williams appearing on Channel 10’s Before the Game program on Friday night (from 8.30pm ACST) and Channel 7’s Game Day on Saturday (from 9am ACST). Choco will also be sitting on the Norm Smith Medal panel and will be writing player reviews for The Sunday Age.
We’ve also got a strong connection in the 2008 Grand Final, with four former players involved in the game, including 2004 Premiership hero Stuart Dew.
Dew will join Stephen Gilham and Brent Guerra in the Hawthorn line-up while Tom Harley, who played one game, had one kick and kicked one goal for Port Adelaide – against Geelong – will captain the Cats in the Grand Final for the second consecutive year.
The Hawthorn off-field engine room is also stacked with Power connections. Head coach Alistair Clarkson, head of personnel and list management Chris Pelchen, development manager Geoff Morris, head fitness coach Andrew Russell, IT coordinator Nick Russell and 2004 Premiership player and current Hawthorn assistant coach Damien Hardwick all spent time with the Power.
And for those who missed it last night, David Rodan was outstanding in his dance routine on the Grand Final edition of Channel 9’s The Footy Show. D-Rod had his own 30 second segment – and half a dozen back-up dancers – in the Player’s Revue, with the Fijian native winning plenty of fans with his silky moves. Alipate Carlile, Paul Stewart and Matt Thomas were also part of the revue, playing Jokers in a Batman segment.
