MARK WILLIAMS: Well just on stats, our hard ball gets, our tackles, our chases all those things indicated that we matched them and we certainly kept at it all day so they were pleasing signs for us. We went inside 50 more, we had more shots on goal and we won the clearances. You have to play pretty tough to win all of those areas. When we lose we always question those indicators of our hardness but it didn’t shine out as being a problem. The most glaring thing obviously was our decisions going inside 50 and we spent many, many hours – three hours with the coaches and a couple of hours with the players – debating and discussing and trying to improve on that.---Why did their forwards always take easy marks whereas our guys had so many opponents around them? Is it just because they flood and we don’t?

MARK WILLIAMS: Certainly they flooded – that’s the way that they play, they want to counter punch against you. We try to make the game appealing to the crowds but obviously everyone’s happy when you win. We’ll look at adjusting. I thought we were out-marked a few times as defenders which was poor. I didn’t think our defenders helped each other and our ruck positioning probably wasn’t as good without Brogan there to air assist. Up forward, I didn’t think we marked as well as we did for the first few weeks either so it was a combination of what both teams did.
--- This week’s loss makes the clash with Collingwood the most critical of the year. It will say a lot in terms of how we respond.

MARK WILLIAMS: I think the most critical at the start of the year was that against Fremantle and then the most critical was the North Melbourne game, followed by the Crows. Each week is a critical week. We don’t discount one and we don’t push one up any more than each other. They’re all worth four points and we work diligently to get the result every week.--- Why don't Port 'man-up' when the opposition is kicking in from the goal square? If they did it would help to shutdown the team's defence.

MARK WILLIAMS: Many years ago teams played man-on-man at kick outs but because people kick better and run quicker than they have in the past, you now get better results if you play a zone – so players are covering an area of ground rather than a player. Sometimes it still gets out so it looks like you weren’t close to them but if teams played man on man, the opposition would take the ball from the kick out to inside their 50 and get a lot more shots on goal than by playing a zone.
