THE Port Adelaide Football Club is disappointed with the compensatory draft pick it has received for losing Nathan Krakouer to the Gold Coast.

The club expected an end-of-first-round pick for Krakouer, but instead will receive a round two pick in one of the next five drafts.

At this year's National Draft, that will equate to a pick in the mid 30s.

Krakouer was drafted with pick 39 in the 2006 National Draft and has played 40 AFL games for the Power.

Power Football Operations Manager Peter Rohde said the club deserved better having put four years into the 22 year old's development.

“We had hoped for an end of first-round draft pick on the basis there is more ahead of Nathan Krakouer,” Rohde said.

“We expected greater compensation for the time and effort we have put into developing Nathan. We would have liked more, but that is the process.”

The club is yet to decide whether it will use the pick immediately or wait for the draft to be uncompromised in 2012 after the introduction of Greater Western Sydney.

“The problem of waiting two years, after the draft process returns to normal, is you have to spend another three years developing the drafted player,” Rohde said.

“In reality, you’re waiting five years to have a player who replaces Nathan Krakouer on your list.”

The club has until November 5 to decide whether it will use the pick in this year’s draft.
