The St Kilda Football Club has today issued an apology to fans attending a VFL match on Saturday following a complaint regarding an on field comment by a player.

The football club was this morning made aware of an incident involving a St Kilda listed player, Will Johnson, during the Zebras v Collingwood match at Victoria Park.

Head of Football, Chris Pelchen, said the Club has made it absolutely clear to all players that comments of this nature are unacceptable and apologised unreservedly to fans who attended the game.

“Will has admitted to making the comment, has apologised personally to the Collingwood supporter who made the complaint and has been sanctioned by the Club.”

“The community has made it very clear that it doesn’t matter if you’re on the field, in the crowd or on the street that this kind of language is unacceptable, and the St Kilda FC agrees wholeheartedly.”

Will Johnson has apologised personally to the individual this morning and vowed that he would learn from his mistake.

“I am really sorry for the comment I made on Saturday.”

“I understand that it is unacceptable to respond to taunts from the crowd, under any circumstances.”

“I take responsibility for what I’ve done and I will better manage my frustration in the future.”

Will has been sanctioned by the Club and will be required to undertake community service.
