THE AFL has confirmed that the blockbuster round 16 clash between Geelong and the Western Bulldogs at Skilled Stadium will be broadcast live on Channel 10.

The network put in a request to screen live what is shaping as one of the most keenly awaited games of the season when it became apparent the 27,000-capacity stadium was going to be sold out well ahead of match day.

AFL media manager Patrick Keane said showcasing the July 19 match on live television was a great coup for football supporters.

"Once all the tickets had been sold we had a discussion with Geelong as the home club and they're happy to go with it and obviously Channel 10 are delighted too," Keane said.

"It's shaping as a very good game so we think all those footy fans who can't get to the game will be thrilled that they can watch it live on television."

The match will be the first meeting this year between the two sides currently occupying the first two positions on the AFL ladder.
