Victoria won the final of the 2006 AFL Women's National Championships at Henson Park, Marrickville today beating Western Australia, and retaining an unbroken position as national champions over the 15 years that the event has been staged. The final score was Victoria 18.17 (125) to Western Australia 2.1 (13). Meg Hutchins, number 25 for Victoria, was awarded best on ground.

Queensland finished the Championships in third place defeating the Victoria U19's side in the other final, 8.9 (57) to 3.3 (21).

The 2006 AFL Women's National Championships held in Sydney this week were the biggest ever with over 270 players from seven States and Territories (except Tasmania) as well as a development side from Victoria and a team from the Australian Defence Force competing.

The All Australian Team selected from the Championships was named at a special function tonight at Sydney Olympic Park. The players selected in the team will be eligible to play in the inaugural Women's International Rules Series to be held in Ireland in October and November this year.
