CARLTON chief executive Greg Swann has revealed that the club is no closer to finding a home for wayward full-forward Brendan Fevola.
Swann said there was no use speculating where the contracted Coleman Medallist might play in 2010.
"We've started the initial talks today and we'll see what happens as the week unfolds," he said.
Geelong football manager Neil Balme says the club is working hard to retain all of its players despite salary cap pressure.
Mathew Stokes, who missed selection for the Toyota AFL Grand Final, is among them, however, the Cats are also interested in Fremantle defender Marcus Drum.
Clubs are asking after rookie-listed ruckman Shane Mumford, who played 18 games in 2009.
Essendon coach Matthew Knights said it was a quiet day for his club but that there had been some interest in disgruntled midfielder Andrew Lovett.
"We just met with all the clubs and nothing's available at this point, so it's pretty straight-forward from our perspective," Knights said.
"There's certainly some interest and discussion with clubs (about Lovett) but nothing has come to fruition."
The Bombers remain open-minded to either a player or picks for compensation should they find a trade for the 26-year-old.
Fremantle has been in discussions regarding midfielder Brett Peake and Drum but is no closer to finding the pair new homes.
"We're pretty confident something will get done, but we'll just have to wait and see," general manager of football operations Chris Bond said.
Peake and Drum are the only players Freo is prepared to find new homes for with Chris Tarrant definitely off the table.
Bond said Freo wasn't looking specifically at any players from rival clubs, aiming to continue its youth direction by preserving its selections ahead of next month's NAB AFL Draft.
Adelaide recruiting manager Matt Rendell has suggested his club won't have any role to play in trade week, but predicts it will be one the busiest in recent memory.
The Crows, who re-signed big forward Kurt Tippett late last week, have ruled Chris Knights and Richard Douglas out of returns to Victoria.
Rendell said there hadn't been a lot of interest in Adelaide players, including ruckman Jon Griffin, who is seeking a trade.
He also released a loud cackle when asked if his club would pursue Fevola: a clear 'no' from the Crows.
And North Melbourne chief of football Donald McDonald says no-one has asked after midfielders Sam Power, Daniel Harris or Matt Riggio at this stage.
He noted that those players were more likely to come into play towards the end of the week.
"When you've got big deals going on like (Barry) Hall, Fevola and Lovett, it makes it difficult from our perspective, but we'll try to help the boys out and go from there," he said.
After parting with Josh Gibson to open formalities, McDonald said North Melbourne was unlikely to participate in any other exchanges.
"As far as we're concerned, we're really happy to go to the draft with those five picks," he said.
The 2009 AFL exchange period runs from October 5-9. No trades are official until paperwork has been accepted by the AFL and formally recognised after 2pm on Friday, October 9.
