West Coast Eagles assistant coach Peter Sumich says he will be happy to speak to St Kilda about the Saints' vacant coaching position if the club approaches him. However the Eagles' all-time leading goalkicker says for now his top priority is West Coast's finals campaign as the Eagles attempt to win their way through to the preliminary final by beating the Bulldogs in a semi-final at Subiaco on Saturday night."Everybody knows where I stand on all that - after the season we will have a look at it," he said of the Saints' vacant coaching position.Sumich has built a solid coaching reputation during his time as number two to senior coach John Worsfold at West Coast with Worsfold publicly endorsing Sumich's senior coaching credentials earlier this week. The former champion full-forward is also an excellent media performer, something which will hold him in good stead in what is expected to be a wide field for the job that became vacant following the Saints' shock sacking of Grant Thomas earlier in the week.Sumich's decision to throw his hat into the ring for the Saints' coaching job comes a day after his former teammate Don Pyke, who like Sumich played in both the 1992 and 1994 Eagles' premiership wins, ruled himself out of contention.Pyke, who is an assistant coach to Adelaide's Neil Craig, had been tipped to be one of the favourites but on Thursday said he would not be applying for the job.And another early favourite in former Geelong and Brisbane assistant Daryn Cresswell may also be out of contention following reports he is the subject of a police investigation in Queensland. The Saints have already announced the make-up of a sub-committee to select their next coach, which will be chaired by St Kilda legend and Brownlow Medalist Ross Smith. It will also include former AFL coaches Robert Walls and Ken Sheldon as well Saints' president Rod Butterss, chief executive Archie Fraser and board members Glen Casey and Mark Kellett. The Saints are expected to interview a host of current assistant coaches with other favoured contenders believed to be Sydney's John Longmire, Fremantle's Mark Harvey and the Bulldogs' Chris Bond while there is also speculation the Saints could chase an experienced coach from a rival club such as Carlton's Denis Pagan.
