MELBOURNE'S likely new president Jim Stynes says his ticket will be unveiled on Thursday, when he introduces his group to the incumbent board at the club's annual general meeting.
The Melbourne great said three current board members would stay on. It is believed those board members are Andrew Leoncelli, Karen Hayes and Peter Spargo. Long-term, Stynes said eight board members was an ideal number.
"We'll leave three [current board members] on and then make a decision between now and Thursday – how many will come on [the board] on Thursday," Stynes said.
"It's a big board; there is 11 at the moment. So long-term, we want to reduce it. It's probably too big to work ... it'll take time to bring it back to that (eight board members)."
Stynes said the current board members had been "really good" about the prospect of a new ticket taking over.
"There is a lot of support to do what we can do, but we haven't really taken them (the current board) through some of the change that it's going to create and some of the ideas … it's all happened very fast," Stynes said.
"They have to agree to step off … and have a changing of the guard, but obviously if they don't agree to it, then it can't happen until the end of the year, unless we call an extraordinary general meeting."
Stynes said the challenge for his potential board was to sustain any change.
Coach Dean Bailey was asked about the potential Stynes ticket after his side's loss to Collingwood on Monday. But he said his only focus at the moment was coaching his team.
"My view is that I'm here to coach and the players are here to play and we need to focus on what we're doing. We need to get a lot of things right before worrying about what's happening with Jim and Paul," Bailey said.
"I've been here for whatever it is … and Paul Gardner [and I], we speak regularly, [even when] he's overseas and we speak and he rings and I ring him and we have a very good relationship and obviously Paul and Jimmy are speaking and have spoken.
"They'll decide and we need to get on with training and prepare ourselves for next week."
