Lions utility Jared Brennan has been charged with a Level Four headbutting offence against Port Adelaide's Josh Carr by the AFL's Match Review Panel tonight.
Brennan headbutted Carr during the fourth quarter of the Lions' Round 14 match against Port Adelaide at AAMI Stadium last Saturday afternoon.
In summary, his previous good record means that his three-match sanction for the offence can be reduced to a two-match offence with his five-year good record and then reduced further to a one-game penalty with an early plea.
The incident was assessed as intentional conduct (three points), medium impact (two points) and high contact (two points). This is a total of seven activation points, resulting in a classification of a Level Four offence, drawing 325 demerit points and a three-match sanction. He has a five-year good record, which reduces the sanction by 25 per cent to 243.75 points and a two-match sanction. An early plea reduces the sanction by 25 per cent to 182.81 points and a one-match sanction.
The Lions will advise the AFL tomorrow whether they will accept the sanction or contest the charge at the Tribunal.
