STAFF from Port Adelaide Football (PAFC) Club were guests at the recent ‘Welcome to International Students’ event coordinated by StudyAdelaide, which was held at the Adelaide Town Hall.

Over 700 international students from Adelaide’s high schools and university institutes were present and welcomed by the states Lord Mayor Stephen Yarwood. The students each received a welcome pack and most students had the chance to see a Koala one of Australia’s popular icons.

PAFC’s International Student Supporter Group (ISSG) Committee members Dhenesh Subu was delighted and overwhelmed by the amount of students that were present and how he encouraged students to come along and see a live AFL match in 2011.

“This has been fantastic. It was fun meeting new students from different cultural backgrounds and tertiary institutes and explaining to them what the ISSG is all about and how they can get involved” Subu said

There are currently over 34,000 international students studying in South Australia with a growth of 20% per annum. Students that are studying in Adelaide come from:
- China
- India
- South Korea
- Malaysia
- Vietnam
- Cambodia
- Papua New Guinea
- Sri Lanka
- USA/Canada

The Port Adelaide Football Club in 2011 will continue to work closely with StudyAdelaide and provide a positive Aussie experience for those who have newly arrived.
