COLLINGWOOD premiership forward Travis Cloke has threatened to enter the NAB AFL Draft if he cannot agree to terms on a new two-year contract in the next week, but the club is confident a deal will be reached soon.

The 23-year-old is out of contact and yet to commit to the club, with his manager-father David negotiating a contract extension that would lock him in until the end of 2012.

David Cloke says his son may walk out on the club if they fail to strike a deal over the next few days.

"We still haven't come to an agreement on the contract and we're looking at it now if we can't come to an agreement what the next option or step we take is," he told afl.com.au's Trade Week Radio on Monday.

"If things are not sorted out this week, the option will be he'll go into the draft."

Cloke said there had been "some ground" made on talks in the past three or four days after he agreed to reduce the request by a year.

After initially attempting a three-year term, they are now seeking a two-year contract with an eye to the new free agency rules, which will be implemented for the 2012 season.

Cloke said there were a range of reasons why his son was somewhat dissatisfied with his situation at Collingwood and it wasn't just about the finer details of his contract.

"In some ways, he is probably a little bit disappointed he hasn't been involved in the leadership group at the club in the period of time he's been there," he said.

"Other players have come in and gone straight into it so that's been a little bit of a sticking point within himself.

"There's a couple of things but he wants to stay there. Like most things, he wants it to be fair and reasonable."

Speaking at the press conference where Chris Tarrant was unveiled as a Collingwood player again, the club's football manager Geoff Walsh played down talk of a rift with the Cloke clan.

"We're confident the deal will be struck and player and club will get on with business," Walsh said.

Walsh refused to say whether the sticking point was the length of the deal or the amount of money being offered to Cloke by the Magpies.

"The deal will be negotiated on the merits of both player and club," he stated.

As for David Cloke's outburst, Walsh refused to be drawn into a slanging match.

"I'm not disappointed because it is what it is," he said.

"I can't control anything other than my own statements or my own emotions, so it certainly won't affect or detract from the negotiations we're having."
