Introducing the Ablettiser

The Geelong Advertiser made a last-ditch attempt to keep Gary Ablett at the Cats by re-naming their daily paper the Geelong Ablettiser for tomorrow’s edition. The special edition will have a front page plea from the Advertiser’s staff, stating their case as to why he should not leave the Cats for the Gold Coast.

Gumbleton, McVeigh sign on

Essendon have signed on forward Scott Gumbleton, Mark McVeigh and Kyle Reimers until the end of 2012. Essendon’s general manager of football operations said he was pleased with Gumbleton’s campaign this season, after playing just 5 games in the last three seasons with the club.

North’s Jones announces retirement

North Melbourne forward Corey Jones has announced that he will be playing his final AFL match against Melbourne this Sunday. Kangaroo’s coach Brad Scott said that his re-call to the squad had no reason to do with the announcement and that his form had earnt him a spot in the team. His last appearance for the Roo’s was in round 2 this year and since then he scaled back his commitments to the club when it became apparent the Roo’s would give more opportunities to his younger team mates.

Rodan to help Ebert through LARS recovery

After his own successful LARS surgery, Port Adelaide onballer David Rodan has offered his help to teammate Brett Ebert who is recovering from LARS surgery on his injured right knee. Ebert elected to have the revolutionary surgery after rupturing his anterior cruciate ligament in the first quarter of last week’s win over Melbourne. After Rodan’s operation, he was back running within a month and has encouraged Ebert to adhere to the program the Swan’s medical staff set for Nick Malceski.

Young guns commit to Richmond

Today Richmond has announced that it has signed young guns Jack Riewoldt and Dustin Martin till the end of 2013. The pair were out of contract at the end of the 2011 season but signed on for an extra two years. The re-signing of the two young stars has helped start Richmond’s rebuilding process, after a poor year where they sit second to bottom on the ladder.
