The exact nature of Brisbane Lions forward Jonathan Brown's knee injury is yet to be determined, with the big man undergoing scans on Monday.

Brown hurt his knee in a nasty collision with Geelong's Darren Milburn in the first quarter of Saturday night's clash and while he ran the game out, looked less than comfortable.

Lions coach Leigh Matthews says Brown, who walked into the Gabba on Monday morning with some difficulty, will remain in some discomfort throughout the week.

"He'll have scans today to see if there is anything you could give a name to, or if it's just sore or jarred. At the moment, what exactly it is, is uncertain," Matthews said on Monday.

"He's certainly very sore yesterday and he'll be very sore these couple of days. He's going to be hobbling around all week. They'll be some uncertainty through the week I would have thought."

"After he hurt himself he still played on and played well. That would make you think he would probably come up for this week," he added.

Also, Matthews indicated the club's medical staff had a positive outlook on the Craig McRae's hamstring injury.

"I'm told this morning that they expect Craig McRae will be available and our medical people, I've had great faith in them."

The only definite loss at the stage is Shaun Hart, who is nursing a fractured cheekbone after a clash with team mate Daniel Bradshaw.

Matthews spoke in glowing terms about the 33-year-old veteran.

"We love Shaun Hart. It's a funny word and I know we don't use it, but he is just the most magnificent human being. I've said it many times."

"He's the heart and soul of the team, along with a lot of other players, but we have enormous regard for Shaun."

"It's very sad that he won't be there with us."
