RICHMOND has lodged the papers with the AFL that will take former Adelaide midfielder Chris Knights to Punt Road as an unrestricted free agent.
The Crows do not have the chance to match Richmond's offer because of Knights' unrestricted status.
"We're delighted to have gained Chris' services, as we believe he'll be a valuable acquisition for our group," Richmond football manager Craig Cameron said in a statement.
"Chris has the all-round talent, versatility, and experience to really help us, and we feel that he'll thrive with the opportunities at Tigerland."
Adelaide recruited Knights from TAC Cup club Eastern Ranges with the No.56 selection in the 2004 NAB AFL Draft.
He said he was delighted to have the opportunity to continue his career at the Tigers.
"The last week has been quite nerve racking, but to finally get pen to paper and join this fantastic club is an honour," Knights said.
"I spent eight years with the Adelaide Football Club, which has been fantastic to me. Your career is a short one, and you just have to make the most of it, and Richmond gave me that opportunity, so I'm just delighted to be here."
He made his debut in 2005 and played 96 games with the Crows, but only five this season under first-year coach Brenton Sanderson.
The Tigers are looking to increase their depth as they make a tilt towards the top eight in what will be the fourth season under coach Damien Hardwick.
Knights, 26, will bolster the Tigers' forward and midfield stocks.
Richmond has also been linked with Port Adelaide defender Troy Chaplin, who is a restricted free agent.
