Corrie was invited back to the event as the reining pancake champion after he won their 2006 pancake flipping contest.
This time, Corrie led a team of four competitors in a pancake stacking race against Australian Hockeyroos captain Nikki Hudson and her team. The competition was fierce and despite dropping their pancakes six times throughout the three minute relay, Corrie’s team emerged as victorious.
The speedy Lions forward now has the unique honour of being the first ever back-to-back pancake champion.
160 people attended the charity event which raises money for Queenslanders in need, through supporting their agencies that include Lifeline Community Care, Blue Care, Crossroads (QLD), UnitingCare Health, Wesley Missions (Brisbane and Ipswich) and the Centre for Social Justice.
Corrie received rave reviews for his performance both with the frying pan and on the microphone as he entertained the guests with his usually quick-witted sense of humour. He was awarded with two cartons of pancake mix for his efforts.
While Corrie is currently focussing on a return to the football field later this year, he is sure to have the 2008 Pancake Day firmly in the back of his mind where he will aim to achieve an historic three-peat.
As part of the fundraising initiative, approximately 600 organisations around Queensland, including churches, community groups, businesses, schools and restaurants cooked and sold pancakes to raise money for those less fortunate.
