North Melbourne will feature on the opening night of next year's NAB Cup, with fixtures against Hawthorn and Richmond.

The Kangaroos will kick off their campaign on Friday February 17 at Etihad Stadium in the newly-structured competition.

Following the first week's matches which will be in the round-robin, 20 minute half format, teams will play full-scale, four-quarter matches in the second and third rounds.

Bruce Perser Reserve in Sydney will play host to North's clash against the Swans, while the final match at Ballarat's Eureka Stadium will see Brad Scott's team face off against the Western Bulldogs.

All four matches will count equally with four points for a win and percentage also taken into account. The two best-performed teams over the first three rounds (two shortened and two full games) will play off in the NAB Cup Grand Final on March 17.

The 16 clubs who don't make the Grand Final will play one last NAB Cup match at various metropolitan locations across Australia on the weekend of March 16-18.

As part of the new-look competition, the NAB Regional Challenge will not be staged in 2012.
