Andrew Gaff, the West Coast Eagles' top draft selection from last week’s national ballot, has been allocated the club’s famed no.3 guernsey.

Gaff, who wore no.3 with the Oakleigh Chargers last season, said he was honoured to be offered a number with such strong historical links with the club.

Previously worn by dual premiership hero Chris Mainwaring and then by Brownlow medallist and 2006 premiership captain Chris Judd, Gaff becomes just third person in the club’s 24 years to don the jumper.

The no.3 was retired for three years after the tragic passing of Mainwaring shortly after the 2007 season.

“It’s a great honour to be offered the jumper,” Gaff said today. “I am following some great players into the number and it would be great to emulate their on-field feats with a premiership.”

The allocation of numbers for fellow draftees Jack Darling, Scott Lycett and father-son selection Jacob Brennan will be made in the near future.

The allocation of no.3 to Gaff continues with the club’s tradition of offering the lowest available number to the highest draft selection each season.
