HAWTHORN coach Alastair Clarkson says his side will not change the way it plays despite Luke Hodge’s comments that the team must rid itself of “dumb” undisciplined play.

Hodge’s comment in the Herald Sun on Friday was described as “brutally honest” by Clarkson, who agreed that the team’s discipline needed to improve.

“Hodgey was just being pretty up front about where we sit in that regard,” Clarkson said.

“We want to play tough hard footy, but we’ve just got to pull ourselves back a little bit from really unnecessary free kicks that are sometimes given away in the heat of battle.”

Hodge’s remarks coincide with his return to action this weekend after a one-match suspension from the qualifying final loss to the Kangaroos last year.

The Hawks are still without Shane Crawford and Jordan Lewis due to suspension.

“We weren’t particularly strong in that area of our game last year,  and whether it’s little things in your game like goal kicking or giving away free kicks, they’re things that we can improve that obviously will mean that we can either score more goals ourselves or limit the amount of goals the opposition are scoring,” Clarkson said.
