THE AFL has earmarked the proceeds from the sale of limited edition lithographs of Jamie Cooper’s artwork The Game That Made Australia to go towards the Royal Children’s Hospital's Good Friday Appeal.

One special lithograph, signed by League chief executive Andrew Demetriou and chairman Mike Fitzpatrick, was auctioned as part of the Good Friday Appeal online auction, while the remainder are now available to buy direct from the AFL online shop.

All profits form the sale will be donated to the Royal Children’s Hospital Good Friday Appeal.

The AFL commissioned the 5m x 2.5m painting in 2007 to mark 150 years of Australian football the following year. The panoramic homage to the game and is now on permanent display in the foyer of the AFL's Melbourne headquarters.

Demetriou said the artwork contained many special moments celebrating 150 years of Australian football but two moments depicted in the painting stood out for him.

“You can never forget Nicky Winmar, the lifting of the shirt, and of course the Alex Jesaulenko mark,” he said.

“The whole way that Jamie Cooper has put this art together from the 150 years – with the fans outside the fence and just some of the imagery of some of the early years of football – has been great.”
