COLLINGWOOD continued its tremendous form surge with a record 100-point thrashing of West Coast at the MCG on Saturday.

It was a score-fest from start to finish for the Magpies, who booted five goals in the first term, seven in each of the next two and eight in the last to win 27.11 (173) to 10.13 (73).

It was Collingwood's biggest win ever against West Coast, a far cry from their last meeting, a thrilling extra-time win for the Magpies in a semi-final at Subiaco last year.

West Coast's only competitive period of the match was late in the second quarter, when they reduced a 43-point deficit early in the term to 32 at half time, with six goals in 21 minutes.

Apart from that patch, they managed just four goals for the game.

It was Collingwood's third win in a row, following a hard-fought victory over St Kilda in round eight and last Friday night's 86-point thrashing of reigning premiers Geelong.

Collingwood had plenty of winners, led by Dane Swan, who consistently racked up touches in the midfield, with great help from Scott Pendlebury, Leon Davis, Alan Didak, Dale Thomas, Rhyce Shaw and Scott Burns.

Centre half-forward Travis Cloke was also good, particularly early in the game with his ability to provide a marking target, and he finished with four goals.

Collingwood broke the contest open early, capitalising on a poor start by the Eagles, with Pendlebury kicking the opening goal a little more than a minute in after easily outmarking Eagles veteran Andrew Embley.

Embley was also at fault in the Magpies' second goal, with a poor kick out of the back pocket which was intended for ruckman Dean Cox, but instead fell to Collingwood forward Paul Medhurst, who snapped truly.

By the time Swan scored the last goal of the first quarter, set up when West Coast star midfielder Daniel Kerr was run down by Collingwood youngster Marty Clarke, the Magpies were 25 points up.

They raced to a 43-point lead with the first three goals of the second term, the third of those an easy goal to Didak.

The Eagles lifted to kick the next three goals, including a brilliant snap from Cox.

But the Magpies went to the long break with the momentum, thanks to the match highlight, a four-bounce run through the middle of the ground by Dale Thomas, who capped it with a goal from 30m and a theatrical bow to the crowd.

Collingwood had a 68-point lead at the last change before storming home. Medhurst finished with five goals, four of them in the last term.

Ruckman Cox was a clear standout on a terrible day for the Eagles, controlling the hit-outs as well as picking up 30 touches.
