Adelaide draftee Kurt Tippett will be sidelined for three months after suffering a neck injury while training with the AFL club.

Tippett, a 19-year-old former Queensland basketballer who has only played Australian Rules football for two years, will spend the next six weeks with his neck in a brace.

He sustained an undisplaced fracture in a cervical vertebrae in his neck when involved in a collision during training on Wednesday.

Adelaide's club doctor Andrew Potter said Tippett was expected to make a full recovery.

"He should be able to return to competitive football by three months," Dr Potter said.

Tippett, who was Adelaide's second pick, and number 32 overall in last month's national draft, would not require surgery.
