WHILE every media commentator and his/her dog continues to suggest ways of fixing St Killda, it is apparent their opponents are not buying into the assertion that the team is indeed broken.

In fact, the Brisbane Lions, the team the Saints face on Thursday night, are extremely wary of last year's runner-up and coach Michael Voss warned that it was "a trap" to start thinking of St Kilda as a winless team.

"It's quite different to the St Kilda that has started seasons previously. There's been a fair bit of talk about how they are going to come and what sort of pressure they're under," Voss said.

"But you don't want to fall into the trap [of thinking that this will be an easy game]."

Lions vice-captain Daniel Merrett agreed with Voss, suggesting St Kilda was too talented to just meekly fall away.

"Losing Lenny is a big blow, but someone else will fill that role," Merrett said.

"There's still guns out there - Montagna, Goddard, Dal Santo, Stephen Milne - there's still quality out there.

"When Riewoldt went down last year, everyone thought they were gone. They never fell out. I can still see them being a threat."

Voss said: "We expected this to be a big game for us - it's Easter Thursday. It's a big game in the context of the season, so that probably means it's going to be a physical clash.

"We sit in a very similar position but we want a reward with a 'W' against our name and we feel we're not far away from getting it".

Voss believed his team was not playing too poorly but "concentration lapses at critical times" were hurting.

"And we have to make sure we stop that," he said. "We feel we have the cattle there to do some damage (against the Saints)."

Merret said the team did not have the mindest that its season had prematurely ended.

"We're on the right track, we're building and the guys are confident in the game plan," Merrett said.
