Luke McGuane made a triumphant return to AFL ranks as Richmond posted a magnificent 64-point win over Fremantle in Perth back in Round Four.

The former Broadbeach star, now wearing jumper No.16, played his first game of the 2008 season and his 17th game overall after starting his fourth year at Punt Road playing with Coburg in the VFL.

The third-round draftee from 2004 was included as coach Terry Wallace made four changes to the side that had succumbed meekly to Collingwood in round 3 and was rewarded with the Tigers’ first win in Perth since 2001.

McGuane had four marks and six possessions playing in defence as clubmate and fellow Gold Coaster Andrew Raines sat out his second week with a knee injury.

There were six other Gold Coast products in action in AFL round 4, with David Hale missing North Melbourne’s win over Melbourne due to a thigh injury.

Ben Hudson had 15 possessions and a game-high 22 hit-outs to be among the Western Bulldogs’ best in their win over St.Kilda, who were well served by Nick Riewoldt and Sam Gilbert.

Riewoldt had 13 marks and 17 possessions and kicked a season-high three goals to join Stephen Milne as the Saints’ leading goal-kicker this season with nine, while Gilbert collected 14 possessions and kicked his first two goals of the season.

Hawthorn’s Michael Osborne was held goalless for the first time this season but still picked up a useful 13 possessions in his side’s 44-point win in Launceston over the Adelaide Crows, for whom Kurt Tippett collected nine possessions and 15 hit-outs.

Brisbane’s Daniel Merrett posted his 50th AFL game and celebrated in style in the Lions’ remarkable come-from-behind win over Port Adelaide in Adelaide. The big fullback did his bit, holding Port captain Warren Tredrea to two goals.
