FORMER Melbourne coach Neale Daniher has been appointed on a four-man panel to select Gold Coast's development coach.

The chief executive of the AFL Coaches Association, Daniher will assist in choosing the coach to guide the club's entry into the TAC Cup in 2009 and the VFL in 2010.

Interviews for the role will start in the coming weeks after former triple premiership-winning Brisbane captain Michael Voss turned down the post.

Voss, who remains in the mix to be the Gold Coast's inaugural AFL coach in 2011 if the GC17 bid team gain an expected licence in October, has agreed to a two-year assistant's role at West Coast.

Daniher will join GC17 bid team members Graeme Downie and Alan Mackenzie, and AFL representative David Matthews on the selection panel for the development coach position.

"There are a lot of very talented coaches within the AFL community and the opportunity to coach and build a new team is very enticing for an aspiring young coach looking to take the next step," said the former Essendon star.

Downie, the Lions chairman during their premiership years, said it was a coup to have Daniher on board given his experience and success as a coach and player, as well as his knowledge of the coaching landscape.

"We would like to thank Neale for giving his time to assist in the selection of the GC17 coach and are certain his views and input will greatly assist us in appointing the very best person for the role," he said.
