Collingwood player ratings

John Anthony - 4
Stood tall to mark and goal and inadvertently kneed Robert Harvey in the guts at the same time in the first quarter. That was his only major, but like all Collingwood tall forwards on the night, was not helped by poor delivery.

Nathan Brown - 4

Handed the task of minding Riewoldt and struggled to match his pace on the lead or his endurance. Had four goals kicked on him before being moved late in the third quarter.

Chris Bryan - 3
Missed one he should have kicked when the game was in the balance in the third and then gave an undisciplined free kick away directly after. Wasn't an influence at the stoppages or in general play. Not a night he'll remember fondly.

Marty Clarke - 6.5

Was matched up on Schneider and won that battle convincingly. Smacked a searing volley into the guts of Maxwell coming out of defence which should have ended in an Anthony goal.

Travis Cloke - 4
Was reported to be suffering from a virus during the week and played like it. Didn't cover nearly as much ground as he usually does and scored his only goal from a free kick in the third quarter.

Ryan Cook - 4.5
Spent a fair bit of time on a wing with Montagna, but played too wide of him without getting enough of his own ball.

Shannon Cox - 3

Was unable to have any influence up forward and, even worse, his man for most of the night, Clarke, played a blinder.

Leon Davis - 6.5
Showed flashes of brilliance – including a nice pass to set up an Anthony goal – but generally found it hard to shake his minder Jones.

Chris Dawes - 4
Led hard early, but failed to present much of a threat inside forward 50 and finished goalless.

Josh Fraser - 6.5
Was good around the ground and led the side with eight marks, but was beaten by King at the stoppages.

Tyson Goldsack - 5
Had several opponents on the day without really impacting any of them, but did well to intercept a Goddard hand pass and goal in the second quarter.

Tarkyn Lockyer - 6
Booted a goal, but wasn't able to have a large influence switching between forward 50 and on the ball.

Nick Maxwell - 5
Had several jobs early without a great deal of success and was sent to Riewoldt late in third after the Saints' skipper kicked his fourth goal.

John McCarthy - 4
Booted one goal, but was unable to hurt his opponents, who were often able to run and rebound away from him.

Paul Medhurst - 5.5
Couldn't shake Fisher to play a meaningful in attack or around the ground. Finished with one goal.

Shane O'Bree - 6.5
Finished with 21 touches, but had just three of those in the first term and only 13 by three-quarter time when the heat was still in the match.

Harry O'Brien - 7
Played on Milne and generally had the upper hand in that battle, but the Saint goalsneak still managed three goals.

Scott Pendlebury - 7.5
Worked hard throughout to finish with 23 possessions – the equal highest of any Magpie. Had a hand in three goals.

Rhyce Shaw - 7
Used in a variety of roles and competed hard to be a useful contributor without grabbing the game by the scruff of the neck.

Dane Swan - 8

The Pies' most effective user of the ball over four quarters. Found it 23 times, laid six tackles and booted a goal to be his side's best player.

Dale Thomas - 5.5

Wasn't a major factor throughout with 16 possessions and two marks and didn't manage any of the freakish acts that we've come to expect from him.

Shane Wakelin - 5
Beat Koschitzke early, but struggled when the more mobile Gwilt became his opponent.
