MELBOURNE youngster Ricky Petterd has continued his comeback from injury with four goals for Sandringham in the side’s six-point loss to the Coburg Tigers on Saturday.

Petterd, who missed eight rounds in the first half of the season with a groin injury and also overcame a life-threatening punctured lung last year, was one of Melbourne's standouts according to Melbourne football operations manager Ross Monaghan.

"Ricky kicked four goals, so that was a really good effort from him and his progression has been good since coming back from injury," Monaghan told melbournefc.com.au.

Monaghan said ruckman and former Crow John Meesen, veteran tall Ben Holland and first-round draftee Jack Grimes also impressed.

"John Meesen has battled a bit, but 'Meeso' also had a really good game and [coach] Andy Lovell thought it was John's best game for Sandy, so he showed some good signs.

"Benny [Holland] was also serviceable with two goals and Jack Grimes had another solid game at VFL level."

Sandringham has lost eight matches by fewer than two goals this season, but it is still a chance to make the finals.

The Zebras now must win their final two matches and rely on Frankston or the Northern Bullants faltering, if they are to make the top eight.

"They haven't had too many of our blokes play this year and they've gone close a number of times, so that makes a massive difference," Monaghan said.

Monaghan said the Zebras reserves are set to play off in the finals, with a handful of Melbourne listed players set to line-up for Sandringham in September.
