Richmond forced to send veteran forward to long-term injury list
RICHMOND forward Jake King is facing an extended spell on the sidelines due to his ongoing battle with a toe injury.
King is set to undergo more surgery on the injury – which was operated on after last season – and will likely miss 8-10 weeks, according to an update on Richmond's website.
It's a big setback for the 30-year-old, who played rounds two and three in the AFL before being dropped back to the VFL.
King played two matches in the state league, before sitting out last weekend after experiencing more pain from the toe injury.
“It’s disappointing for Jake and the team to have him sidelined for a significant period,” Richmond’s football manager Dan Richardson said.
"He’s a very tough character, and is no stranger to playing under duress. As much as he was prepared to push through, it didn’t make sense for him to continue to play in pain.
“We’re sure Jake will be diligent in his rehab, and hopeful he will be fully fit later in the year.”
King has been placed on Richmond's long-term injury list, with the Tigers yet to decide whether to upgrade a rookie to the senior list.
