Neale Daniher today advised the Melbourne Football Club that he will not be seeking an extension of his contract beyond 2007.
Talking today about his decision, Neale said, “Given all the current speculation and uncertainty for all parties of the Melbourne Football Club, I have in consultation with my wife Jan and family, decided that my coaching obligations with Melbourne Football Club will cease at the end of his contract. I will not be seeking re-appointment.
“Over the past 10 years, I have enjoyed coaching Melbourne and being part of a great team. By ending the speculation about my coaching position, it will allow us all to focus on completing this season as best as we can.
“I am supporting the current review as this is designed to support the club in moving forward in their decision making process for 2008 and beyond. My present focus is to get the team right for Friday night and to fulfil my contract obligations.”
Melbourne Chairman Paul Gardner said, “Neale has coached the Melbourne Football Club with great distinction, grace and expertise and will be remembered as one of our longest serving and most successful coaches. We are naturally disappointed that he has chosen not to go through the process of seeking an extension to his contract, but respect his decision and appreciate his early notification to enable us to now apply that process to find the best possible coach for the Melbourne Football Club. Neale has done a great deal for the Club, often under very trying conditions, and we wish him all the best for his future career inside and outside of football.”
Neale Daniher will be leaving the Melbourne Football Club after ten years as coach.
