I remember Round 6 1990 beating Hawthorn for the first time since 1979. Hawthorn had won the last two premierships and were again on top of the ladder. The saints had struggled throughout the 1980s but had started the year well and ‘the Big Boy’ was flying marking and kicking everything. Against all odds the saints won 3 points. Some highlights I remember of the day were Danny Frawley sending Dermie into the fence (remember Brereton had knocked spud out a year earlier), pluggers breathtaking play, Winnmar taking a screamer over Michael Tuck and Russell Morris missing a sitter in the last 20 seconds which could have pinched it for the hawks. The atmosphere was electric all day and we left the game pumped to the eyeballs. Great memories.
