Voss on the eight-day break

“The players will stay away from the Club for a couple of days and we have to maximise that.”

“The tendency is when you get a six-day break you have to do everything right. An eight-day break is when you make your most gains.”

“For us, it’s about being able to fully recover physically and mentally and get ourselves 100% right.”

“We’ll get a fair bit more training done this week which is nice, considering that’s been impeded somewhat for the past couple of weeks. To be able to get most of our list out there and training should hold us in good stead for this weekend.”

“We have to come into it well so that we can come out of it well too. We only have a six-day coming out of the back of this week, so we have to do all the right things.”

Voss on the team’s confidence

“For me personally back when I was playing, my biggest motivators didn’t come from my greatest wins - but from my greatest losses.”

“And when you’ve lost a few in a row, the element of confidence does drop - there’s no doubt about that.”

“But playing safe does not turn it around. The players have got to have confidence in themselves and in each other to know what to do and what to expect.”

“In the 18 months that I’ve been here as Coach, I don’t think I’ve ever made an example of a player that’s missed a target. I like to focus more on whether they made the right decision.”

“I would much rather see a skill error made by a player trying to attempt the right thing, than them not making a decision at all and playing it safe. It’s just trying to reinforce that over and over again.”

“I think we’ve got huge capabilities in this group but at the moment we’re not showing that for whatever reason.”

“We’ll just keep reinforcing the things that are working for us.”

“We don’t want to become a ‘victim’ of losing - that is, blaming other things and looking for excuses why we’re not winning that are exterior to what we can control. We can’t afford to become victims of this scenario. We have to be motivated by that.”

“Part of that starts with what we do on the training track and our approach. In the last couple of weeks, I think we’ve started to turn that corner. I’ve seen some positive results in that area.”

“If we show that commitment to turn it around, then we absolutely and categorically will succeed. But if we fall away and become a victim of losing, then we’ve got no chance.”
