Port Adelaide has brought back 10 first-choice players for the clash and Kingsley said it would be a perfect opportunity for the team to gel together.
"We’d like to get our game up and running this week," Kingsley said.
"Obviously [the returning players] are not going to gel together straight away and dominate the game like we’d hope them to mid-way through the season.
"But if they can string some passages of play together, start playing well together and get that feel back that they had last year, then we’re improving and we’ll be right for round one."
Kingsley is in charge of the Port Adelaide defence which this week will be without regulars Troy Chaplin, Jacob Surjan and Michael Wilson.
But the Power are confident that youngsters Nick Lower, Paul Stewart and rookie Nick Salter can fill the vacant spots.
"I think we’ve got some pretty adequate back-ups," Kingsley said.
The Power rocketed from 12th to 2nd last season and Kingsley said the club was on track to improve even more this year.
"From what we’ve seen this pre-season, the players are fitter, smarter and stronger so I would expect there will be improvement," he said.
"Whether it will be as significant as last year’s improvement, probably not, but I think there will be a definite improvement.
"We’re looking forward to certain players improving. The players that improved a lot last year, namely Michael Pettigrew, Jacob Surjan and a few others, we’d look for them to make continued improvement."
