EJ Whitten Cup
On Saturday evening the Western Bulldogs and Essendon Football Clubs will be playing for the EJ Whitten Cup.
The EJ Whitten Cup was named in honour of Footscray/Western Bulldogs legend the late Ted Whitten.
The first EJ Whitten Cup was played in 1995 whilst Ted was gravely ill with prostate cancer.
Ted Whitten was present for the inaugural EJ Whitten Cup match — which was organised to recognise his outstanding contribution to the Footscray Football Club and Victorian football in general.
Sadly, in the same year Ted Whitten died of prostate cancer in August of 1995.
The trophy was donated by the Mann family in memory of the late Linda Klemm, a lifelong Western Bulldogs supporter.
The Western Bulldogs have won the cup the past 5 occasions.
As this is a do or die match the Western Bulldogs will be looking to ‘stick it up em’ and hold onto the trophy for another year.
