PORT Adelaide midfielder Kane Cornes will be given until Friday to prove he has recovered from a sprained AC joint, but veteran Josh Carr has already been ruled out of Sunday’s clash with Richmond at AAMI Stadium.

Cornes, 26, appeared to be in all sorts of trouble when he came from the ground clutching his arm late in the five-point loss to North Melbourne on Saturday night.

However, scans revealed no structural damage and Power ruckman Dean Brogan said the dual All-Australian was keen to keep his streak of 134 consecutive games intact.

“Kane wants to play, there’s no doubt about that. With AC joint [injuries], they’re very painful when you first do them, but three or four days later they actually settle down,” Brogan said on Wednesday.

“Kane’s feeling pretty good and he’s told us that he wants to play and we need him to play because he’ll probably get a job. He’ll go and sit on someone and he’s the best in the comp at doing that.”

Carr was dropped from the Power line-up two weeks ago and failed to front for SANFL club Glenelg on the weekend because of a nagging hip injury.

The former premiership star didn’t join his teammates for training on Wednesday and will spend at least another week on the sidelines.

“Carry’s hip is still bothering him a little bit,” Brogan said.

“We’re erring on the side of caution with him and we don’t want to rush him back because it’s only early and we need him playing really good footy in the second half of the year.

“It’s unfortunate because this week would’ve been tailor-made for him to come back into the side, but it’s not the case.”

Defender Jacob Surjan also left the track early after spending some time stretching with the trainers, but is expected to be take his place in the side.

Prized No.4 draft pick Hamish Hartlett, who missed last week with hamstring tightness, completed the session and should be recalled to take on the Tigers.
