Or will Geelong’s dominance – and super team-oriented brand of footy – count against it when it comes to the game’s highest individual honour?
There are plenty of chances among the men in blue and white hoops, with Gary Ablett, reigning medallist Jimmy Bartel and the two Joels – Corey and Selwood – the leading fancies.
However some of the AFL’s biggest names are also well in contention to jag their first medal.
North Melbourne champion Brent Harvey enjoyed another stellar year; Western Bulldogs midfielder Adam Cooney produced a season of scintillating footy, while Saints skipper Nick Riewoldt must come into play given his amazing finish to the year.
Perhaps the biggest dangers to the obvious favourites loom in the form of former winners Chris Judd and Simon Black.
That pair have again been prolific, with Judd in particular likely to make a charge at some point in the evening.
