Both recent preliminary finals between the two clubs have gone the way of Geelong.
The Cats sneaked home by five points en route to the club's drought-breaking premiership in 2007. Two years later they showed no mercy in a 73-point thrashing before again winning the flag.
St Kilda and the Western Bulldogs clash in the second preliminary final at the MCG on Saturday, September 18. The match will begin at 7.20pm.
The Bulldogs eliminated the Sydney Swans in Saturday's semi-final to reach their third consecutive preliminary final.
The Saints are also in their third straight preliminary final, having fallen at this stage to Hawthorn in 2008 before defeating the Bulldogs to reach the 2009 grand final.
