Brisbane Lions Rookie Sean Yoshiura is living proof that dreams really do come true.
Sean became the first ever Japanese-born player to feature on an AFL list when the Lions selected him with their Queensland Zone Selection in last year's Rookie Draft.
“It’s always been a massive dream of mine to be the first Japanese AFL player and be someone who can help promote and spread the AFL gospel to the Asian continent,” Sean said.
At the tender age of just 19, that’s exactly what he has achieved.
Sean was barely a teenager when his parents decided to take the leap of faith and move to sunny Queensland - a move that he reflects brought his family even closer together.
Along with his brother and sister, Sean has embraced the Australian outdoor lifestyle, spending most of his days either at the beach or kicking a football. A gifted sportsperson, he has won medals both in the pool and on the track but Australian Rules is his passion and now it’s his life.
While studying Sport Science at Bond University, Sean was recruited to the Lions as a Rookie and represented the Club's reserves side throughout 2010. He now hopes to fulfil his dream of one day playing in a senior AFL match with the Club.
In a recent episode of Australia & Me, cameras went behind the scenes to provide an insight into Sean's hectic sporting and university schedule.
