THE AFL has appointed Sue Clark as its new cultural strategy and education manager.

Clark, who worked for Victoria Police for 24 years, has previously been responsible for managing the AFL's Respect and Responsibility Program, which promotes safe and inclusive environments for women.

She will retain the leadership of that program as well as taking on her new role, which will move with her into the AFL's football operations department.

AFL general manager football operations Adrian Anderson said he was delighted Clark was taking on the new role, which will oversee responsibility for management of the AFL Education Program.

"Sue has done an outstanding job the past 18 months with the Respect & Responsibility Program and this new, bigger role is a great opportunity to take our player and staff education programs to a new standard of excellence, he said.

"Having experienced significant growth over the past decade, the AFL Education Program is considered best practice in professional sport and comprises nine programs that are delivered to AFL players, coaches, club staff and umpires by both the AFL and AFLPA."

The program includes Alcohol and Player Behaviour, Respect and Responsibility, Gambling, Depression, Laws of the Game and Tribunal, Medical Issues, Anti-doping Code, Discrimination, Racial and Religious Vilification, and Illicit and Performance-Enhancing drugs.

"This demonstrates the AFL's commitment to education and attitudinal and cultural change which is not just focused on players, but the football industry as a whole," Clark said.

The new role came about as part of a recent review of the AFL's Education Program.
