RICHMOND defender Graham Polak continues his promising recovery from injuries sustained when he was hit by a tram on Saturday night.

Polak was moved from intensive care to a general ward on Monday evening and is on fluids.

Richmond Football Club also confirmed on Tuesday that he has walked a few steps assisted and has asked for water.

The 24-year-old is still quite confused and very tired but is aware he is in hospital.

He will undertake further scans in the coming days.

The Alfred Hospital's trauma director Mark Fitzgerald said on Monday that Polak appeared to have no brain swelling to this stage.

Polak was crossing the intersection of Orrong and Dandenong roads in Armadale when he was collected by the tram.

Teammates Cleve Hughes and Jordan McMahon were with him at the time.
