Hawthorn Football Club have teamed up with the Tasmanian Government to provide every primary school across Tasmania with a free handball target and three footballs.

The initiative is aimed at encouraging Tasmanian school children to have fun being active.

The program will also see an activity book delivered to every grade four student across the state, thanks to MBF.

The booklets have been developed in conjunction with the Department of Education and incorporate educational components along with promoting physical activity.

Hawks Chief Executive Stuart Fox was joined by the Tasmanian Minister for Sport and Recreation, David O’Byrne to officially launched the program at Glenorchy Primary School last week.

Students were presented with their handball targets, and given some lessons by Hawks Legend and MBF representative Peter Hudson.

Minister O’Byrne said that more than 51,000 Tasmanian primary school students will have access to the new sports equipment under the Hawks in Schools program.

“We’re certain that these packs will be an enormous asset to primary school students across the State, giving them access to top-quality sporting equipment and fostering active, sports-loving children,” the Minister said.

Over the next few weeks, students from University of Tasmania will visit selected schools to deliver an in-school program using the handball targets and the activity books.
