Have you ever wondered how ‘they’ get those great big signs painted on the field at the footy and at other major events? Artwork like the outline of the Brisbane Lions’ lion emblem for the Gabba 3,000 Club photo shoot last year. Well, wonder no more…

In fact, only recently there has been a revolution in the world of grass signage after a local Queensland company called GrassAds actually developed a robot to perform all the hard work.

All clients need to do is select the grass sections they want to feature their logos or graphics and the GrassAds robot goes to work, accurately following the image pre-supplied by the client and applying it to scale on the grass.

For the Lions’ big 2007 members and supporters photo shoot, GrassAds sorted all the logistics of how big, how much paint, how many people required and how much time to paint the lion outline and loaded all this information into their computers.

The fully pre-programmed GrassAds mini robot buggy was laser guided into place with surveying style equipment then it painted the whole lion emblem outline in 30 minutes flat.

The technological advancements have made this form of marketing exposure available to businesses large and small for all events. From the Commonwealth Games to a corporate golf day, companies can take advantage of this signage that’s easy to read, value for money and fuss-free.

And it’s all thanks to a robot that weighs 10 kilograms, fits into a suitcase and is aptly named Druitt (i.e. Drew-it – okay you get the picture…)

“GrassAds technology removes the need for traditional techniques and costs. There’s no mess and because it’s computerised, it can replicate almost any design resulting in the best possible presentation,” says Managing Director Ian Mayfield.

“The robot saves costs, so even smaller entities such as golf clubs and bowling greens can now use the technology to display a sponsor’s logo on their grounds – not just the Brisbane Lions.”

Operations and Marketing Manager Craig Malloy said the functional ease of the product and its ability to put the business being featured in the thick of the action were key selling points.

“The truth is that the product often sells itself. I’ve been to many events where people have sought us out because they can see what GrassAds can do for their business,’’ he said.

It is now easy and cost-effective to accurately re-create a logo or artwork at any size or scale almost anywhere! For more information, please visit www.grassads.com.au or call 07 5573 3959.
