PORT Adelaide has reacted to its poor season on-field by announcing a wide-ranging review of its football operations.

Incoming chief executive Mark Haysman said the football department had commissioned the analysis in preparation for the 2009 season.

The six-member panel comprising Haysman, general manager of football operations Peter Rohde, coach Mark Williams, club director Darryl Wakelin, SANFL commissioner and former CEO Brian Cunningham, and former Port Adelaide assistant coach and Adelaide player David Pittman.

Haysman said the analysis would build on the 2008 mid-season review by former Australian cricket coach John Buchanan and North Melbourne premiership coach Denis Pagan of the club's "learning environment".

"Ultimately, everything comes down to performance on the field. We want to ensure that our system does everything it can to support and prepare our players for continuous high performance in 2009.

"It will involve everything from training regimes, match-day processes, pre-match planning, game-style, mental preparation and mentoring to post-match recovery, diet and fitness."
