In summary
North Melbourne primarily bolstered its midfield and half-back stocks, picking Eastern Ranges winger/defender Max Warren, former Western Bulldog and Port Melbourne premiership player Malcolm Lynch, Box Hill Hawks captain Sam Gibson and giving recently delisted Kangaroo Gavin Urquhart a second chance. The Kangaroos also selected tall utility Brad Mangan from their VFL affiliate Werribee.

What the recruiter said
"In Max Warren and Brad Mangan, we've taken two guys into our program who have a fair scope for development, while we've added to our depth with the mature-age players. Often guys that stick at it in the state leagues and keep grinding away are the sort of players with the resilience and real drive you need as a rookie." - North Melbourne recruiting manager Bryce Lewis

NAB AFL ROOKIE DRAFT

Pick 10: Max Warren, Eastern Ranges
Highlights | Watch on YouTube

DOB: 29/1/93
Height: 181cm
Weight: 80kg
Lewis says: "Max is a winger/mid-sized defender who played for Vic Metro. He can win the ball inside and outside, is strong overhead, has smart hands and is a penetrating kick. Max is a work in progress but we're confident he has AFL qualities."

Pick 28: Brad Mangan, Werribee
Highlights | Watch on YouTube

DOB: 27/4/91
Height: 190cm
Weight: 95kg
Lewis says: "Brad is a smart player who is capable of playing as a third tall at either end. He has good hands, effective disposal, reads the play well, makes good decisions, and has good closing speed. Brad was a very talented 17-year-old but didn't have great year at 18, although he was still part of a strong Murray Bushrangers side alongside Jack Ziebell and Sam Wright. He trained with us for two weeks recently and impressed, but has to work on his conditioning."

Pick 46: Malcolm Lynch, Western Bulldogs/Port Melbourne
Highlights | Watch on YouTube

DOB: 16/3/88
Height: 184cm
Weight: 86kg
Lewis says: "Malcolm is a creative player who breaks the lines with his pace and evasive skills. He is also a good left-foot kick. Malcolm played primarily as a forward at the Bulldogs but had a lot of injuries. At Port Melbourne, he has played midfield and has developed remarkably under the guidance of Gary Ayres."

Pick 63: Sam Gibson, Hawthorn/Box Hill Hawks

DOB: 27/5/86
Height: 185cm
Weight: 83kg
Lewis says: "Sam is a really hard-running player who averaged about 28 possessions in the VFL last season. He spreads well but balances that with an ability to play inside. As captain of the Box Hill Hawks, he also brings strong on-field leadership to the club."

Pick 77: Gavin Urquhart
DOB: 18/5/88
Height: 181cm
Weight: 81kg
Lewis says: "We were always committed to taking Gavin back, so he now gets another chance."
