POTENTIAL MILESTONES
Lions Vice-Captain Daniel Merrett is set to play his 100th AFL match this Saturday evening when the Lions face West Coast at Subiaco Oval.
Merrett was recruited to the Lions from Southport on the Gold Coast with Pick No.30 overall in the 2002 AFL National Draft.
After switching to Aussie Rules relatively late in his junior years, Merrett quickly adapted to the sport and later represented Queensland in the 2002 AFL U18 Championships.
He has since established himself as the Lions' 'rock in defence' using his speed and strength as an asset against some of the competition's best forwards.
Merrett received both the Lions Best Defender and Most Improved Player awards in 2007 and became an official part of the Club's Leadership Group in 2009. He has also been named in the Queensland Team of the Year in each of the past three seasons.
This Saturday evening he will become just the third player in Club history - behind Fitzroy's Wilfred 'Chicken' Smallhorn and Alan Thompson - to wear the number 21 guernsey in 100 senior Club matches.

With six fresh faces playing their first senior match for the Club, the new-look Lions kicked off their 2010 campaign with a hard fought 32-point win over the West Coast Eagles at the Gabba.
After trailing for most of the first three quarters, the Lions piled on seven goals to two in a blistering final quarter to secure the win.
Jared Brennan was unstoppable with 31 disposals and was ably assisted in the midfield by Simon Black and Michael Rischitelli.
Captain Jonathan Brown led all scorers with five goals while high profile recruit Brendan Fevola and Vice-Captain Luke Power each booted three.

The Lions have won two of their past three matches at Subiaco Oval.
The Lions welcomed former West Coast utility Brent Staker to the Club during the off-season courtesy of a complicated three-way trade (with the Swans) which also saw former Lion Bradd Dalziell move back home to join the Eagles.
The Lions currently have seven players recruited from Western Australia: Todd Banfield (Swan Districts), Simon Black (East Fremantle), Mitch Clark (East Fremantle), James Hawksley (Peel Thunder), Matthew Leuenberger (East Perth), Ash McGrath (South Fremantle) and Daniel Rich (Subiaco).
The Eagles hold the best record of any AFL team against the Lions since the merged Club formed in 1997.
