AS MANY as seven second-year players could feature in Adelaide's extended squad to take on the Indigenous All-Stars in Darwin on Saturday, February 7.

The highly-rated recruits of the 2007 intake, including Patrick Dangerfield, Andy Otten, Jarrhan Jacky, Myke Cook, Tony Armstrong, Aaron Kite, Taylor Walker and former rookie Jared Petrenko, have been the big movers on the track this summer.

Assistant and development coach Peter Jonas said all bar Armstrong, who has been sidelined with a leg complaint, were pushing to make an appearance in the pre-season competition.

"The second-year boys are all performing well on the training track. With another year in them, they’re all looking bigger and stronger and they all look capable of playing [AFL] this year at some stage if we need them," Jonas told afc.com.au.

"It will depend a little bit on who is fit and who’s up and running as to who plays in Darwin, but at the moment the boys are going okay, so hopefully we’ll have a look at them all.

"From my point-of-view, the game will be a good chance to have a look at the young players under pressure and against good opposition. And from a team perspective, we’ll be keen to see how our training is going and how some of the new structures are starting to work out."

Jacky, like Dangerfield and Otten, had a taste of AFL in his first season. He played three games in the early part of 2008 before being struck down with a series of knee and ankle complaints.

The 19-year-old is hopeful the hit-out against some of the League’s most talented players will serve as a springboard for more opportunities this year.

"I’m looking to play more games this year and if I can get a game in Darwin it would be a good start. Hopefully I can roll on from there," he said.

"It would mean a lot for me to play in that game. I’m from Broome originally, so I think playing in Darwin would be pretty similar to playing at home and playing against the Indigenous All-Stars would be good fun."

Jacky has been earmarked for greater success in 2009 and Jonas said the likeable teenager had improved on his impressive first pre-season at West Lakes.

"Jarrhan probably achieved a fair bit early and got a few games early last year," Jonas said. "Maybe when you look back, he wasn’t quite ready for [those] and then he had the injuries.

"He’s had a great pre-season thus far. He hurt his ankle a bit the other week, but apart from that he’s really showed that he’s stepped up again this year."

Jonas said the Crows would enjoy a lighter week on the track in the lead-up to the Darwin clash after a solid two-week training block.

McLeod (knee) rejoined the main group for agility and non-competitive work last week, but it seems unlikely that the club will risk him at this stage of the year.

Brett Burton (knee), Jason Porplyzia (shoulder) and Brad Symes (hands) definitely won't play while forward Trent Hentschel's return could be further delayed as he recovers from a quad strain.
