Jed Adcock made his name for the AAPT Brisbane Lions in defence last year, but it is in the midfield that the exciting youngster hopes his future lies.

Adcock was one of only three Lions to play all 22 matches in 2005, finishing third in the club champion award and applying the clamps to some of the AFL's best small forwards.

The breakthrough campaign came after only two appearances in his first year at the club and Adcock is now ready to kick on.

"That's a goal I'm looking forward to, mainly trying to gain a bigger responsibility with the club on the field," Adcock said about his prospective midfield move.

"I think the first thing I had to do was get my fitness up so I could actually play in that position. Hopefully now I'll be able to play backline if needed but push up into the midfield when it's my turn."

The 20-year-old is well aware that his performances last season will lead to increased expectations in 2006 - and not only from external sources.

"There's a hell of a lot of pressure this year - probably from myself as well," he explained.

"It's from the outside and probably from within as well, to perform and to live up to what happened last year. I guess now it's just the ability to kick on, go on with it and try and better last year."
