HAWTHORN midfielder Clinton Young is hopeful his side's win over Carlton on Sunday at Etihad stadium will kick start the Hawks' season.

The Hawks have only recorded three wins in 2010, with Sunday’s demolition of Carlton making it the club’s first back-to-back victories after a tight three-point win over Richmond last week.

“We went through a rough patch and we scraped across the line last week, but we bounced back and played well today,” Young said after his side’s 50-point win.

“I thought there was a fair bit of pressure on us to turn our season around and we’ve done that so far and hopefully we can keep that going.”

Despite being ranked third-last in the League in tackles for the season, the Hawks appeared to be back to their aggressive best on Sunday with a season-high figure of 79.

The addition of Rhan Hooper to the side assisted with the Hawks forward-line pressure, while midfielders Young and Brad Sewell were back to their tackling best with nine and 10 tackles respectively.

“We just knew we had to improve in a lot of areas and that was one but it wasn’t necessarily a major focus - we just had to play a lot better across the board.

“I thought we were a lot more intense today and that showed on the scoreboard".

A 23-tackle first term from Hawthorn had the Blues on the back foot from the start, resulting in some costly turnovers.

“It set the tone for the day - we knew if we put them under pressure we might get some opportunities and they came and we converted.

“It was a credit to all the boys, once they got it down there we pressured them well and got the turnover goals and that’s what you want every week,” he said.

Hawthorn plays the Sydney Swans at the MCG next Sunday and Young said he was confident the side's momentum would help capture a third successive win, despite facing a team that always played well against his team.

“They always seem to have the wood over us so if we can keep the momentum going and play like we did today we’ll give it a good crack.”
